The Versacomp language includes a number of instructions that support Adobe Acrobat features when the PDF and Dual drivers are invoked in a composition job. Each instruction also places related "pdfmarks" in PostScript files generated by the PostScript or Dual drivers. Take this link to see Chapter 18 of the Versacomp Language Reference Manual. Click the related bookmark to view the description of the instruction.

Take this link to see the announcement that introduced Versacomp users to PAGETEC's, then new, link capability. PAGETEC, Inc. was among the first to have its own PDF driver for its composition software. We believe we were the first to have a driver that writes both PostScript and PDF in a single composition task.

The samples are Portable Document Format® files produced by Versacomp application programs executed with Versacomp's PDF Driver invoked. The Adobe Acrobat Reader© (or Acrobat Exchange©) is required on your system to read them. If you have neither, you may use the download button at the bottom of this page to download a free copy of Acrobat Reader© from the Adobe Systems Web Site.

  • BOOKMARK – is an instruction that may be used to place bookmarks in a PDF file generated by the PDF or the Dual driver.

  •
  • LINK – is an instruction that may be used to generate PDF links within a PDF file being generated or between a PDF file and another document. The external document to be linked may be another document available on a network, or it may be a Universal Resource Locator (URL) on the World Wide Web.

  •
  • SAVPOS – provides the means for Versacomp to save horizontal and vertical positions to account for horizontal movement of bookmark positions or link annotations during line justification in justified text and vertical movement if columns of text are vertically justified. Using such information, Versacomp can insure correct horizontal and vertical positions of both bookmarks and link annotations.

  •
  • OPENACT – provides user control over the initial display when the PDF document generated by the PDF or Dual driver is opened under Acrobat Exchange or Reader.

  •
  • DOCINFO – provides the facility to place descriptive information, about a document being composed, into a PDF file generated by the PDF or Dual driver. Such information may then be viewed by the user when the document is open under Acrobat.

  •
  • $VIEW – provides the facility to suppress everything outside the "type page". A display document may have wide white margins which occupy space on the monitor when the document is viewed under Acrobat. This results in a much smaller magnification factor and a display that is difficult to read. Using this crop box feature together the OPENACT instruction produces a display that is more easily read when the document is open under Acrobat. The entire page, including the wide margins, is faithfully printed if the file is printed under Acrobat.

  •
  • FORMBEG, FORMEND and FORMCALL – provide the facility to generate and use PDF forms. The first two are used to generate PDF "forms" that may subsequently be incorporated one or multiple times in one or many PDF documents.
